Giving up the Ghost, subtitled Fortunes of War #1, is a novella by Bryan Young. The story is the first entry in the Fortunes of War fiction series announced by Catalyst Game Labs as unlockable stretch goals for the 2023 Mercenaries Crowdfunding Campaign. It was the $200,000 stretch goal, provided for free to all backers. The title was released digitally for Mercenary campaign backers on 3 May 2023, prior to being offered for retail purchase as electronic EPUB format on 30 November 2023.

Plot Summary[edit]
After fighting off the Jade Falcons on Carsphairn, The "Wolfhounds" - the Second Company of the Second Kell Hounds Battalion find out rather abruptly that the Kell Hounds are disbanding and struggle to meet that challenge by adopting a new unit persona.
